At Congregation Ahavat Olam, all are welcome to participate in the intimate, nurturing, and vibrant Jewish congregational community that is committed to Torah, Avodah and G’milut Chasadim, as well as the Jewish people and the State of Israel.

WORSHIP

Congregation Ahavat Olam meets monthly for Friday night Shabbat Services from 7:30-8:30 PM. Services are led by Rabbi-Cantor Nancy Diamond Landsman. We excited that Cantor Joanna Lind will be joining Rabbi-Cantor Nancy Landsman at all of our High Holy Day services and many Shabbat services throughout 2017-2018. Currently, and since our inception in 2012, we hold our services in the heart of Deerfield at 600 Deerfield Road, one block east of Waukegan Road, in a lovely room at Christ United Methodist Church. Our participatory hour-long intimate Shabbat service is filled with beautiful music. Rabbi-Cantor Landsman is usually accompanied by a pianist, and often times joined by experienced and talented vocalists and instrumentalists from the congregation. Embracing traditional melodies, with a mix of contemporary settings sung in Reform congregations, we use the newest Reform prayer book, Mishkan T'filah. The prayers are written in Hebrew and transliteration, and our services include a good balance of English and Hebrew prayers.

The sermons frequently take the form of lively discussions about the Parasha (weekly Torah portion) or other issues of interest. After services, we gather for Kiddush and Motzi (reciting the traditional blessings over the wine and bread) and Oneg Shabbat, when we enjoy spending time visiting with each other while eating delicious refreshments that people volunteer to bring.  Occasionally we hold Shabbat Potluck Dinners in lieu of our typical Shabbat services, so be sure we have your email address to keep you updated of all of our programs and services.

Our High Holiday services follow a similar format and are unique in that the Yizkor and Neilah services on Yom Kippur are included at the conclusion of the morning service.

The warm and intimate space we use for our services feels like a living room, with sky lights, couches, large armed cushioned chairs, and beautiful lighting, overlooking a deck with a flower garden.
